Students on government scholarship in Egypt have marched to the embassy in Cairo to protest against the delayed payment of their bursaries.

They say the embassy has not paid them for almost a year now.

They want to be paid immediately. Embassy officials are yet to comment. But the students say Egyptian police have been deployed.

Today, officials gave contradicting accounts about the allowances.

The Ministry of Education said the money had been paid to the students, but the ministry of Foreign Affairs says the money would be paid soon.

There are about 160 students on government sponsorship in various universities in Egypt. Each of them receives $100 monthly.
