Displaced Budi residents asked to return home

The commissioner of Budi County in Eastern Equatoria State has called on people who were displaced during an inter-clan fighting in the area over the weekend to return to their homes.

The clashes followed a cattle raid more than a week ago.

Sam Felix says the raiders attacked Beckaladu village and killed two children. They also stole 30 goats.

The villagers tried to organize a revenge on neighboring Ikotos County, who they suspected of the attack. However, authorities intervened and advised against the revenge.

Mr Felix says some people rejected the advice and shot randomly in the town on Sunday, killing two soldiers.

A bodyguard of the commissioner and an assistant chief were wounded in the incident.

“We, as a government, will coordinate and ensure that those goats are returned peacefully and to have these criminals who killed the kids apprehended,” Mr Felix assured the residents.

Mr Felix says some criminals are taking advantage of the situation to spread fear.
