Number of IDPs fleeing Wonduruba-Lainya hits 7,000+

Authorities in Wonduruba Administrative area says the number of IDPs who have fled to Lainya County in fear of insecurity has risen to more than 7,000.

The Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State yesterday said the fighting was between the government and the SPLM-In opposition.

Wonduruba Payam Administrator, Justin Khamis says the IDPs are facing food shortage.

“Until today we have registered 7,677 IDPS; that is the population who are now in Lainya and their condition is really very bad. There is no shelter and there is no where they can sleep. There is no food that have been brought by the NGOs only that some traders and citizens from Wonduruba donated some food, and sugar to them two days ago,” he said.

He says three cases of acute diarrhea were also recorded yesterday.

“Yesterday they were really suffering others reported three cases of diarrhea because they moved for two days in the bush without food, after reaching there they ate and took water which caused them diarrhea.”

The Caretaker Governor of Central Equatoria State yesterday said that the state government will send food supplies to the displaced people.
