The Ministry of Interior handed three armored vehicles to Northern Bahr el Ghazal police to tackle crimes and enhance security in the area on Friday.

The state police spokesperson Captain Guot Guot Akol says the vehicles will help boost security along the border with Sudan.

Akol says the armored vehicles can accommodate dozens of police officers and their equipment.

“These vehicles can be used to boost security at the border and some other sensitive areas where are criminal activities these vehicles will accommodate enough forces to provide security in the area,” he said.

The patrol vehicles were offered to the state, a day after two local government officers were killed by a gunman in Aweil East County.

The suspect, identified as a Sudanese national is reportedly on the run.

In March last year, the National Police Services received procured 150 vehicles to enhance the operational effectiveness of law enforcement agencies across the country.

The vehicles including Toyota pickup trucks and armored tanks were meant to be distributed across the ten states and the three administrative areas to combat criminal activities.
