Humanitarian agency, Oxfam, says continued fighting in the country has discouraged donors from committing funds to help people affected by the conflict.

At a conference in Geneva on Tuesday, donors pledged $275 million for humanitarian assistance in South Sudan.

The Director of Oxfam, Zlatko Gegic says the international community has been discouraged, reducing their efforts to release funds.

“One of our fears have materialized that those $275 million are not really enough for what South Sudan needs and the target that has been set by the humanitarian coordinator of 600 million during this conference has not been reached even by 50%,” Mr Gegic said.

“At the same in our opinion, it signals that the international community or governments are getting a little bit tired or even frustrated with the leadership of the country and protracted conflict.”

The conference was organize by the European Union and the United Nations.
