Leer Hospital is in dire need of medical after doctors and nurses resigned recently over pay.

The doctors and nurses left the government-run health facility over the alleged little pay.

“Most nurses and doctors resign to further their careers and also to secure well-paying jobs offered by different organizations,” Bantor Pout, who resigned recently, told Eye Radio.

The County residents are complaining over the resignation of trained medical personnel from the local hospital.

They said the resignations are untimely especially during this wet season when the area of about 53,000 people experiences many water-borne disease outbreaks.

In response, the deputy minister of Health, Doctor Yatta Lugor, said the situation is out of hand.

“……. doctors have resigned for greener pasture. It is something you cannot prevent so long as the pay of the government is not commensurate with the NGO’S pay. So, we have little to do.”

Doctor Lugor cautioned all doctors who resign from the Government hospital that his ministry will not give them any scholarships:

“So, these doctors should take note,” said Dr. Lugor, “Most of them have gone away just to come back appealing to the Minister of Health to sponsor them for post graduate studies, which we cannot.”

Doctor Lugor urged the doctors who work with the Ministry of Health that there is a good chance for them in terms of experience, scholarships and many other things.
