The Civil Society Alliance has dissolved its office in Juba and elected Akuoch Ajang as the new chairperson.

Mr Ajang succeeds Deng Athuai, whose term expired earlier this year. He will lead the group for a period of six months to organize a general election.

The newly appointed head of the alliance said the interim group is independent and will work for the benefit of the people in the country.

He was addressing the media after his appointment.

“We are civil society. We don’t abuse anybody. We are neutral, we are not army and we are not a political party,” Mr Ajang said.

“Our interest is the interest of the citizens of this country. We must come clearly and say this is what our people want by not involving the interests of individuals.”

A taskforce will be formed within the period of six month to conduct the general election.

The outgoing chairperson, Deng Athuai, made headlines recently when he said President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Dr Riek Machar were not serious with the peace dialogue because they have no sons in the forces.

He later apologized to the President, saying “I would like to offer an apology to the president of the Republic Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit as the legitimate representative of the people of South Sudan for my statements delivered at the national consultative conference on peace talks held in Freedom Hall, Juba on 24th November 2014. They were uncalled for and regrettable”.
