New Duk commissioner prioritizes peace

The newly appointed commissioner of Duk County in Jonglei State says he will work to promote peace and reconciliation with the neighboring counties.

Jacob Akech says part of his plans is to form peaceful activities with Ayod, Uror and Twic East Counties.

“Peace is really what we need; for any activities to move forward or for us as a nation to move forward, peace have to be for real,” Mr Akech told Eye Radio’s Sundown Program.

“Duk County can be a ‘glue’ to the peace in Jonglei state and even the whole country. We are the one of the counties in the country that is impartial because our local courts have been run with two languages – Nuer and Dinka.

“With this situation, we need the example or the connector or the bridge for the peace in our beloved county in Jonglei and duk must be the one, because sometimes that situation makes us vulnerable.”

Mr. Akech urged the people of Duk County to ensure peaceful coexistence with the neighboring counties.

Mr Akech succeeded Elijah Mocnhom Wuor.
