The Commissioner of Renk in Upper Nile State says the county has received food assistance from the Sudanese government.

“Over the weekend we received a humanitarian convoy carrying humanitarian assistance from the Sudanese government which had been promised by President Omar El-Bashir as part of his support to the legitimate Government of the Republic of South Sudan,” Kur Chwai told Eye Radio.

Renk County is at the border with Sudan. It’s a host to thousands of IDPs from the neighboring counties.

He said the security situation in the county is calm.

“Regarding the security situation, it is calm all over the county including on our border with the Sudanese states like White Nile, Blue Nile and Sinar.”

The items were delivered from Sudan to Renk over the weekend. They include sorghum, dates, biscuits and sugar.
