Cattle keepers ordered out of Maridi

Author : | Published: Friday, June 12, 2015

The Commissioner of Maridi County in Western Equatoria State has ordered all cattle keepers to leave the area immediately, to avoid more conflicts with the farmers.

Four people were killed this week when the cattle keepers shot randomly in the town.
They were reacting to a grenade attack at a cattle camp.
Commissioner Wilson Thomas says he issued the order after a meeting between the local community and the cattle keepers yesterday.
“We have resolved in that meeting of yesterday that they should all go because we had the Mundri Conference last time and the resolution was that there should be no any cattle here in Maridi and in Western Equatoria,” Mr Thomas said.
He added that calm has returned to Maridi and he urges the residents who were displaced to return home.
