The former Mayor of Yei Municipality Cecilia Oba Tito, 40, and her office manager have been killed in Juba.

The bodies of the deceased were found yesterday in Jebel, a Juba suburb.

“It was around three to four O’clock in the evening when finally the police found the bodies dumped in Jebel,” Suba Samuel, CES information minister, explained to Eye Radio.

“We personally went there to see the situation; we found that the Mayor and the office manager were brutally killed and were just dumped in the house which is still under construction.

“And we came to learn that the house, under construction, actually belonged to the Mayor.”

The motive of the killing is unclear.

“We cannot preempt or speculate any motive behind this assassination unless the police reported out,” Mr Samuel added.

Late Oba was appointed as the Mayor of Yei Municipality in October last year, and was relieved from her position in September this year.

‘Barbaric killings’

Civil society organizations forum operating in Yei River County have condemned the killing of the former mayor of the county municipality in Juba.

“We strongly condemned the barbaric killing of our sister Cecilia Oba and brother Emmanuel Lemi including other South Sudanese who died in cold blood across the country,” Dara Felix, forum’s secretary General told the media today.

“We call upon the law enforcing agency to investigate and bring to account any individual or group of individuals involved in such an act.”
