The United States Institute of Peace is conducting trauma healing to people affected by the conflict in South Sudan.

It has trained 13 South Sudanese in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, to carry out the process.

A participant of the trauma and peace building training, Tatiana Nyechuol says they will assist the affected people by engaging them in various activities.

She says children are their major priority target.

“With the kids, it’s easier to deal with because you just come up with activities mostly like sport activities and any other activities that will easily catch their attention,” Ms Nyechuol explained.

Majority of the victims of the violence are women and children, according to humanitarian groups.

“And if you keep on taking the kids through that process and teaching them the values of life and how they should think of their future – not only the bad things that they went through or bad things that they saw – that would be a good way of bringing them up.”

The United States Institute of Peace will conduct another training on trauma healing in June in South Africa.
