Upper Nile IDPs in need of relief assistance

Author : | Published: Thursday, January 29, 2015

Authorities in Maban County in Upper Nile State are calling for relief assistance to more than five thousand people displaced by recent fighting.

County commissioner Timothy Newe Gore told Eye Radio that the affected people lack food and clean water.

“We have IDPs in five places where we keep them. They are actually in need of food and they don’t have water. IDPs in Bankitimak and Kaya are 3,263 people without kilo 10 and Bier Maraba. And in Kango, the household is 283 and individuals are 2,083, and there are also 983. These are the citizens who fled the fighting from Jamam and the areas around Jamam. So I am asking the government to avail food to the IDPs if the government is able to avail food to these people then it will be ok.” He said.

These IDPs fled their homes this month when the government and the SPLA in opposition clashed in Jamam.
