The African Union Peace and Security Council will discuss today a report of an inquiry into the South Sudan conflict.

The chief mediator, Syeoum Mesfin, says the Council will discuss the peace process after a presentation from IGAD.

“IGAD is to report to the African Union Peace and Security Council at Summit level. That Summit also will deliberate on the peace process and on the report of the African Union Commission of Inquiry in South Sudan,” Mr Mesfin said.

“It is a critical time and we all keep our fingers crossed to see something emerging and emerging substantial agreement.”

President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar discussed the contentious issues in the peace process with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Deslagn in Addis Ababa.
