Traders in Warrap have increased prices after the state government subsidized food items imported from Sudan two months ago ran out of stock.
In March this year, the authorities in Warrap received sixty-five trucks of grains from Sudan to address high commodity prices in the market.
But Warrap State Minister of Information Wol Mayom says the food items have finished -as a result, the traders hiked their prices.
“Before May, the situation was generally good in Warrap when the government subsidized the market but after the subsidies ended in the counties and Payams, of course, the traders have raised their prices in the market,” he said.
According to him, the traders complained about the expensive value of the dollar.
“The main complaint is the high rate of dollars against our local currency, so our local currency became weak,” he said.
The state official says a kilogram of sorghum that used to be sold at 2500 pounds has increased to 3500 pounds.
“They have shot the prices from 2500 ssp per Kilo of Sorghum to at least 3500 ssp.”
