The Vice President for the Infrastructure cluster, Taban Deng Gai says he, Dr. Riek Machar, and Dr. James Wanni Igga have ventured into piggery farming that is supplying pork in the capital Juba.

Taban said their modern farm in Luri payam of Juba County in Central Equatoria state is now selling what he described as ‘the best pig meat’ to restaurants in Juba.

He said they have contracted a South African national to manage the farm.

Taban Deng is also encouraging farmers and other stakeholders to invest in modern farms to boost agriculture in South Sudan.

Deng said each of the ten states and the three administrative areas should have at least one modern farm.

“I’m a farmer, me, Dr. James, Dr. Riek we are farmers, very good farmers by the way. Our farm in Luri is a modern farm,” VP Taban said during the national economic conference in Juba.

“We are training young scientists from South Sudan at the University of Juba, we get training there,” he said.

“We have started supplying Juba even with pig meat, the best pig meat in restaurants now in Juba is on our farm. We are employing a very expensive manager from South Africa.”

“Let us start with 13 modern farms. One per each state [and 3 administrative areas] I don’t agree with three, you want to put one in Malakal, one in Wau, and one in Juba will not serve the purpose, 13 will serve the purpose, one in each state [and 3 administrative areas].”
