South Sudan will stop using foreign school curricula in 2018, the Ministry of Education has announced.

Currently, some states are using Kenyan, Ugandan and Sudanese syllabi.

The Director General for Quality Education, Omut Okony, says South Sudan curriculum has been developed.

“We developed and reviewed it. But there were gaps in it. So, we changed it because it was not complete,” Mr Okony told the Dawn Show.

“We were supposed to start using it in 2017, but due to financial problems will start apply new curriculum in 2018.”

The foreign curricula are now being phased. However, some learners oppose the plan.

Last month, secondary school in Kuajok, Warrap, was briefly closed down after a pro-Sudanese curriculum students protested the South Sudan’s 8-4-4 system.
