State owned TV, SSBC, accused of bias

The office of the First Vice President has accused the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation of media bias.

It says the national television has been censoring news stories about Dr Riek Machar.
The office manager of Dr Machar says the TV management has refused to broadcast speeches the first vice president has been making since he returned from the bush.

“The management of the TV has been illegally censoring whatever message that comes from the Office of the First Vice President,” said James Gatdet, in a press statement.

However, an SSBC official who requested anonymity denied any wrongdoing.

He told Eye Radio that most of the clips that they receive from Dr Machar’s office are of poor quality.

The official argued that broadcasting such clips is unprofessional.
