The government has formed a committee to look into the demands of the academic staff of the University of Juba.

Earlier this week, they laid down their tools over unpaid salaries and allowance arrears.
The academicians vowed not to resume work until their demands are met.

Speaking during the 19th graduation ceremony of the University of Juba, Vice President James Wani Igga said the committee headed by the education adviser for the president, John Gai Yoh, has started their work.

“So the idea was to immediately address the headache which is now facing Juba University, especially the lectures and the staff,” said the Vice President.

“Your government has agreed to pay one month salary the April and also to start paying your allowances, whether these are medical insurance allowance, or these are air tickets allowance etc.”

Mr. Wani Iga urged the academic staff to sympathize with the government, referring to the deteriorating situation in the young country.

Nearly 3,000 thousand students graduated from 12 colleges.

More than 2,000 are undergraduates and about 80 are post graduates.
