Five starve to death in Mundri East

Author : | Published: Friday, October 16, 2015

Five people displaced from their homes in Mundri East County, Western Equatoria State, have starved to death.

Last week, some groups of young men attacked SPLA garrison in the area, causing fear to residents. More than 80,000 people fled their homes.

The Secretary General of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, RRC, Sunday Bakista William, says the situation of the IDPs is alarming.

“A lot of displaced people are suffering under trees, in the bush,” Mr William said.

Most of the IDPs are at Lui and Mirimududu camps.  It’s unclear whether the deceased are children or adults. They died earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the deputy Governor Bullen Abiater told Eye Radio that a team formed to assess the security situation in Mundri is yet to visit the area.
