President Salva Kiir has promoted a private policeman to a Second Lieutenant for what he described as a heroic act. Albino Arkangelo Elia killed a suspected robber in Juba this week.

He shot dead one of the five men that tried to rob the offices of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission on Tuesday night.

According to the chairman of the commission, Prof Lokulenge Lole, five gunmen gained access to the premises of the commission, sealed the mouth of the watchman, and tied him up.

Mr Elia, who was sleeping at a nearby house, heard the noise. He went to the compound where he shot dead one armed man. He wounded another robber; three others escaped.

The Police Spokesperson, Colonel James Monday, says Mr Albino has been rewarded for doing a good job in protecting life and property.

Col Monday confirmed the promotion to Eye Radio this morning.

He said the order also gave the police directive to exert maximum efforts to protect civilians.
