Why SSBL shut down production activities

Author : | Published: Friday, April 22, 2016

The South Sudan Breweries Limited has closed down its production activities due to lack of US dollars to import raw materials.

The company warned of the collapse in January, saying it had no hard currency to import more while its stock of ingredients was running out.

In a statement to Eye Radio, SABMiller plc, the mother company of the SSBL, said the firm has not been able to secure access to foreign currency to buy and import ingredients to brew beer, White Bull lager.

The company was also producing soft drinks such as soda, juices, and water.

The Group Media Relations head, Richard Farnsworth, says the site is now running as a depot.

They are using it to sell imported products from their business in Ugandan.

The firm has laid off a majority of its staff, but the number has not been specified.
