SPLM/IO & FDs to start returning to Juba in a fortnight

The advance teams of the SPLM in Opposition and the Former Detainees will be in Juba within the next two weeks for the implementation of the peace agreement, the government says.

The Minister of Information and the official spokesperson, Michael Makuei, says the warring parties have resolved most of the security issues they have been discussing for several weeks now.

Mr Makuei says one of the remaining points for discussion is the protection of installations in Juba, such as the airport, the bridge and the military headquarters in Bilpham.

He spoke to Eye Radio’s Dawn show from Addis Ababa this morning

He said: “Well we have agreed that the advance team of IO and the FDs will be in Juba in mid-November. We are optimistic that we will agree and operationalize the agreement on the ground.”

Mr. Makuei says they are now discussing the operationalization of the government and the opposition forces in Juba after reintegration.

“The problem is the protection of military installation and institutions. The IO is of the opinion it should deploy its forces in Juba.”

“They are talking about their participation in protection of military installation and institutions in Juba, and we say we don’t have these installations or institution in Juba to protect.”

“Anyway may be by tomorrow, hopefully, we will be in position to agree on these issues.”

The SPLM in Opposition and the Former Detainees are yet to confirm the schedule of their advance teams.

Military spokesperson, Col. William Gatjiath Deng, instead announced that its forces have clashed with the government this morning in Upper Nile State.
