The Supreme Court has dismissed a case by the former speaker of Western Bhar al-Ghazal state parliament, who sued the governor over claims that he interfered in his impeachment.

MPs impeached Mr Andrea Mayar in February over negligence of duty.

Mr Mayar denied the accusation and went to court in March, saying Governor Rizik Zacharia interfered in the affairs of the state assembly, leading to his impeachment.

He said Mr Rizik violated the constitution in dismissing three other members of the state parliament.

On Saturday, the court in Juba dismissed the case due to lack of evidence.

“The seven of the nine members of the constitutional court dismissed the case due to lack of evidence they also accused Mayar of raising this case after he was relieved from his position as the speaker,” said Agok Makur the lawyer who represented Mr. Andrea Mayar.
