IGAD Special Envoys have called on the SPLM in Opposition to join the government in implementing the peace agreement.

They say the SPLM-IO has not signed a security agreement reached at a workshop in Addis Ababa in September on permanent ceasefire and transitional security arrangements.

The SPLA says the Ugandan forces, which were deployed in the country after the outbreak of the conflict in December 2013, will not withdraw until the SPLM-IO signs the outcomes.

In a memo sent to the leaders of the signatories to the agreement, the envoys say they are concerned of the delay to implement the peace deal due to continued violations of the ceasefire.

In an earlier statement, IGAD monitors blamed the violations in Unity State in September on the SPLM in Opposition.

The envoys now warn that failure to sign the outcome of the military workshop would obstruct the implementation of the deal.

Chief Negotiator Seyoum Mesfin, General Lazaro K Sumbeiywo, and General Mohamed Ahmed Mustafa signed the memo dated 10 October.
