A team from the IGAD Mediation Secretariat is in Juba to discuss with the government and other stakeholders the implementation of the peace agreement.

It is composed of six members headed by the Chief of Staff for the Mediation, Abdeta Beyene.

The Communications Officer for IGAD-Office of the Special Envoys for South Sudan, Haile-Michael Gebreselasie, says the team, which arrived on Tuesday night, will stay in Juba until Friday.

While in Juba, Mr Gebreselasie says they will engage in meetings with civil society groups, other political parties, the faith-based groups, and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

IGAD has been calling on both parties to the conflict to implement the agreement they signed in August.

Special envoys say the SPLM in Opposition should sign the outcomes of a workshop on permanent ceasefire and transitional security arrangements held in Addis Ababa last month.

IGAD monitors also say the SPLM-IO also violated the ceasefire in Unity State.

However, the envoys say the government has violated the agreement by announcing early this month the creation of more states.
