The Council of Ministers has endorsed the republican order splitting the ten states into 28.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Michael Makuei, says the order was presented to the ministers as a bill by the Minister of Justice, Paulino Wanawilla.

In a statement after the meeting in Juba on Tuesday, Mr Makuei said the order will be presented in parliament soon for discussion.

He said the parliament will amend the constitution to include the new states.

“The Council of Ministers adapted the proposed amendment of the constitution, and this proposed amendment will be tabled soon before the National Legislature for consideration,” Mr Makuei said.

However, the creation of extra states has been decried by the international community.

Last week, both the European Union and IGAD appealed to President Kiir to reverse his decision on creation of new states.
