Jonglei State marked red in the map of South Sudan

A Somali truck driver has been shot dead by gunmen along Gadiang – Bor Road in Jonglei, the state authority has said.

Mohamed Chuol Peter, the Director General at the state Ministry of Information says the incident occurred in the morning hours on Saturday.

He describes the unnamed trader as a middle aged Somali national transporting goods to different counties of Jonglei state.

The commercial truck driver reportedly died when his commercial truck came under fire, in a road ambush along the Gadiang – Bor Road.

Chuol told Eye Radio from the state capital Bor, the body of the deceased Somali national has been taken to Juba.

“The information which I got yesterday [Saturday] is that one of the Somali nationals coming from Gadiang was killed  along Gadiang – Bor road. He was a truck driver and also a trader. His body has been taken to Juba,” Chuold said.

“There are those traders that move between Gadiang, Nyirol and Bor, those transporting goods to those counties of Uror and Akobo.

“The road that goes from Bor, passing through Gadiang to Uror is still operating although the insecurity is always there.”

Insecurities in Jonglei State have rendered most roads inaccessible due to frequent deadly road ambushes, most of which are unaccounted for.

The road from Bor to Gadiang is one of the most unsafe roads in the state.

In April last year, the wife of former national minister of health Dr. Riek Gai Kok, was killed with impunity on the same road.
