Pope Francis has arrived in Kenya for a three-day visit.

The Pontiff was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday.

Millions of Kenyans lined the streets from JKIA to welcome the leader of the Catholic Church as he was being driven to State House, Nairobi, the Daily Nation reported.

Nairobi, is first Africa city the 78 year old pontiff set foot since taking over the leadership of the church in 2013.

At a state function to officially welcome the Pope, Pope Francis revealed the need for peace and harmony especially in the Central African republics.

“All men and women of goodwill are called to work for reconciliation and peace, forgiveness and healing,” he insisted.

Meanwhile, President Kenyatta has also called on the Pope to pray Kenya succeeds in its fight against corruption – a plea which follows his sacking of six ministers over allegations of corruption in the government.

He will use his 11th overseas trip since taking office to deliver a total of 19 speeches on peace, social justice, environmental protection and interfaith dialogue in Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic (CAR).
