Representatives from South Sudan’s warring parties are participating at a workshop on ways to implement the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

The government and the SPLM in Opposition recommitted to the cessation of hostilities last weekend.

IGAD chief mediator, Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin urged the two parties to end hostilities and make peace.

“It is time to bury the hatchet,” Amb Mesfin said.

“Now you must put aside past differences and mistrust and work to achieve peace in South Sudan. We in the region will be with you every step of the way.”

The workshop brings together six members from each of the two warring parties and members of IGAD’s Monitoring and Verification Mechanism.
