The Minister of Information in Lakes says two people were killed and another injured in a cattle raid in Rumbek Central County.

Dhieu Wal Taktiny told the Dawn Program that the two clans of Pakam and Gog fought for several hours during the raid yesterday.

He said calm has now returned to the area.

Mr. Wal says reconciliation processes were ongoing before the raid to reduce tension and fear among the civilians in the county.

“For the last two days, the things have been quite. There were no clashes except yesterday when there cattle raiding between Pakam and Gog, where Gog came and raid cattle from Pakam. But cattle were rescued, there is no cattle taken, and then in the clashes two people were killed, and one was wounded”, the Information Minister reported.

Mr. Dhieu Wal added that the state government is working on a disarmament scheme for the youths.

He says the state will also try to block the sources of arms to the civilians.

Mr Wal says chiefs from different counties have testified that the arms in the hands of the civilians are brought from Juba, Unity State and other parts of the country.
