The American government has pledged nearly 83 million US dollars in additional emergency assistance to South Sudan.

The funds will be used to assist the internally displaced people and South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda.

The American Assistant Secretary of State, Anne C. Richard, announced the addition funding at the annual meet of the executive committee of the UNHCR in Geneva.

In a statement released by the state department, Ms Anne says the pledge could bring the overall emergency assistance to South Sudan to 720 million US dollars for the financial year 2014.

The American government calls on all parties to the conflict to end the violence and allow immediate and unconditional humanitarian access to reach people in need across all areas of South Sudan.
