Media reports suggest that a multinational company based in Khartoum is suing the government of South Sudan in demand of more than 40 million US dollars.

The Active Partners Group is suing the government in Nairobi.

The company says the money is a compensation for a contract that the government of South Sudan dishonored in 2008.

The Bussiness Daily newspaper says the company signed a contract of 197 million US dollars with the government to electrify eight of the ten state capitals.

The South Sudanese Ambassador in Nairobi, Mariano Deng, says it is aware of the report.

He said: “We are making enquiries because at this stage, we are at a stage of newspaper article and we need to go further than that before we can make any statement. They have not yet contacted us.”

“The report is still a report of a newspaper, in this case business daily, and we are waiting to see if this materializes.”

The newspaper reported that a court judge certified the case as urgent and allowed the company to provide suit papers and court summons to the South Sudan government using courier services.
