The United Nations’ Humanitarian Coordinator has described South Sudan as a good model in the region by allowing foreigners to enter the country freely.

Peter Van der Auweraert, the Country Representative of the International Organization for Immigration is referring to the reception of different nationalities fleeing the conflict in Sudan into South Sudan.

He said South Sudan adopted a liberal policy towards people from other nationalities, making the country as an example in the region.

“South Sudan has a Liberal policy in allowing people to enter a country not just South Sudanese returnees but people from other nationalities,” says the UN official.

Van der made the statement during a meeting with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in Juba on Sunday.

He also applauded the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for using limited resources to support the returnees.

“The country can be used as an example for another country in the region secondly, we also thank the Ministry of Humanitarian for using the limit resources they have.”

In March 2023, the Minister of Labour said South Sudan hosts nearly one-million foreign workers but majority of them are not properly documented in the government system.
