Author : | Published: Thursday, February 12, 2015

An appeal made by eighteen political parties to reschedule the general elections has been accepted by the High Court.

The Election Commission plans to conduct the polls in June. But the political parties wanted it to be held after achieving peace.

The acceptance of the petition means that the court will invite government lawyers to respond to the case.

The parties have welcomed the decision of the court.

The Chairman of the SPLM-DC, Dr. Lam Akol spoke on their behalf yesterday.

“We are pleased with the progress of this setting. We think that it has achieved the desired result,” said Dr Akol.

The Chief Justice, Chan Reech Madut, says the next hearing will be on the 3rd of March.

The Ministry of Justice will represent the commission at the hearing.
