Press freedom worsens in South Sudan

Press freedom has worsened in South Sudan. This is according to the latest ranking by the World Press Freedom Index.

Last year, South Sudan ranked in position 119 out of 180 countries. But it has dropped to 125 this year.

The report says the conflict in the country has affected democratic progress and media freedom since independence.

The World Press Freedom Index ranks the performance of countries according to a range of criteria that include media independence, safety and freedom of journalists.

It also considers legislative, institutional and infrastructural environment in which the media operate.

Finland, Norway and Denmark are the top performers in the ranking. North Korea and Eritrea are the worst performers.
