The SSPDF spokesperson said on Thursday he is ready to testify before the government fact-finding committee tasked with investigating the killing of British-American journalist Christopher Allen.

Allen, 26, was killed on May 26, 2017, while reporting on clashes between government and opposition forces in the border town of Kaya, Central Equatoria state.

Speaking during the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, Major General Lul Ruai said he is on standby to testify on the incident.

General Lul’s statement comes a month after the government established a fact-finding committee to uncover the truth surrounding the death of the foreign journalist.

“In 2017, the late decided to go and do media coverage for the SPLA-IO, they came to attack our forces in Kaya, unfortunately he was shot and killed, and of late, the government made an announcement that investigation will be carry out and I am on standby to go and testify,” Lul said.

He was speaking a panel of discussion to mark the end impunity day in juba.

On Thursday, the Embassies of the United States and United Kingdom in Juba reiterated their call for a credible investigation that leads to accountability for the death of American-British journalist Christopher Allen.

The fact-finding committee’s work aims to shed light on the incident and identify those responsible for the killing.

It is tasked to provide a comprehensive understanding of the situation and prevent future impunity for crimes against journalists.

Meanwhile, the family of Allen who have long demanded answers, as well as his home countries, eagerly awaits the conclusion of the fact-finding committee’s investigation, hoping that it will lead to justice and contribute to the prevention of such incidents in the future.
