Two children remain missing after being abducted by armed men in Kapoeta North County of Eastern Equatoria State on Tuesday in an incident that left their mother critically wounded, authorities said.

The abducted children are a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. They were snatched from Lokooges Boma of Wokobu Payam.

Kapoeta North Commissioner Emmanuel Lolimo said the children’s mother, 37-year-old Nomonge Angerun, was coming from the garden when she was approached by four armed men.

“The woman, according to the story she is narrating, was coming back from her garden at around 5 pm on 1 of November, four people approached her and they were strangers so immediately she identified that they are abductors,” she said.

Mr. Lolimo said as the gunmen tried to take her kids away, she tried to resist them before one of them stabbed her with a knife.

He added that the mother of the children was resisting to let her 6 months’ baby which prompted the armed men to stab her with a knife.

“They attacked her and took her two children, and she was struggling with the young one so at the time of resistance she was stabbed by a knife in the stomach. The incident happened at a place called Lokooges Boma in Wokobu Payam.”

The commissioner disclosed that the mother is currently receiving treatment at Kapoeta hospital.

Mr. Lolimo added that locals in that area are being warned to be vigilant.

“There is nothing we can do at the moment accept we communicate to the state authorities and at the moment we are informing our community to be alert and take care of their families.”
