The Eastern Equatoria state Governor, Luis Lobong, has issued a local order banning cattle keepers from carrying guns in towns.

The move came after the state government reported increased cases of insecurity in the state, particularly in Budi, Kapoeta South and East counties.

The state minister of Information, Clement Laku, told Eye Radio the governor is touring the conflict-affected areas to tell people not to carry guns in the streets.

“This order states that…. anybody who is found moving with a gun on the streets will have his guns confiscated by the government,” he said.

“I think that’s going to prevent this equation of people raiding cattle and sometimes killing innocent people on the streets.”

Minister Clement Laku urged the state citizens to promote peace through peaceful coexistence.
