The Minister of Electricity and Dams says the construction of the FULA Hydro- Electricity Power Plant in Nimule will commence in September.

Jemma Nunu Kumba said the power project will partly be funded by grants from donors.

She told reporters at Juba International Airport that the project has been delayed because of the crisis in the country.

“Most of these partners are not able to come to South Sudan now because they still have restrictions of travel by their governments,” said Madam Nunu.

She said the FULA Hydro-Electricity power project will be jointly funded by the government of South Sudan, the Norwegian government, and the private sector:

“The government is putting 25% of the cost, the Norwegian government is giving 24%, partly as a grant and they also will have a share. And the private sector is putting 51 percent. And they are still discussing the financing with their financers.”

Jemma Nunu said the project aims to develop a transmission and distribution network of electricity to areas that do not have it.

The FULA Hydro- Electricity power project once completed will generate 890 Mega Watts of electric power.
