Archbishop of the Episcopal Church in Sudan and South Sudan has warned the leaders and the citizens against hate speech.

Hate speech is defined as is a speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of attributes such as gender, ethnic origin, religion, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

Archbishop Daniel Deng told Eye Radio that leaders and their communities should work for the unity of the people instead of preaching hatred.

“It has been said long time ago that ethnicity does not help us. I can make a mistake as individual but not as a tribe,” the Archbishop said.

“So I’m really warning my people that this time, let us be far away from hate speech, far from finger pointing to this or that. Let us work together to bring peace in this country.”

It is worth noting that a visit of Dr Riek Machar to Emanuel Jieng parish in Juba one Sunday last month resulted in a drama. A group of people later displayed placards bearing images of some people killed in the conflict.
