Authorities in Jubek have launched return of more than 1,000 cattle keepers to Jonglei.

In January this year, the governors of the two states agreed that the cattle will be returned to their home state. The agreement came after deadly clashes with local farmers.

In April, a joint delegation of officials from Jubek, Jonglei and the UN went to Aru Junction along the Nimule road to assess the conditions of cattle keepers returning to their homes.

By then, the cattle keepers had said they needed security forces to accompany them.

The State Minister of Local Government in Jubek, says the first batch of the vulnerable group will leave today for Jonglei.

Isaac Ribek Benjamin spoke after a visit to cattle camps in Aru Junction on Tuesday.

“With this coordination, everything will go well. We hope that they will travel safely,” Mr Ribek told Eye Radio.

Mr. Ribek said women, children and elderly will be transported first to Juba and later to Bor. The youth will walk with their cattle.

An elder from Jonglei, Deng Ayuen, said they need medical and veterinarian teams to accompany them for emergency reasons.
