Bor gets new mayor

The Governor of Jonglei State has named a new mayor for the Bor Municipal Council, six months after the former mayor was sacked.

More than five candidates aspired for the position, but the state government screened the list and only accepted 13 for vetting by a panel of 14 members.

The candidates presented their vision for the town to the panelists on Monday, before Governor Philip Aguer Panyang issued a decree appointing Akim Ajieth Buny.

“Each candidate was given eight minutes to present their vision and plans and how they can change Bor Municipality into a better city,” said Mawut Achiek, state Government Secretary-General.

Mr Akim replaces Nhial Majak, who was dismissed from the position in April, after more than two years in office.
