Bor mini peace conference rejected

The Caretaker Governor of Jonglei State says a mini-peace conference which was supposed to be conducted in Bor has been rejected by some officials in Juba.

John Kong Nyuon says some officials who hail from Jonglei proposed that the conference intended for the state should be conducted in Juba.

Governor Kong, who was addressing worshipers on Christmas day in Bor town, said the conference was supposed to bring the different communities together to discuss how to live in peace amongst them.

“There is a person who may not be able to go to Juba and there are others who could not afford flight ticket from Bor to Juba. So if the peace was conducted here, these people would have listened and see and know what was discussed.” He said, “There is a question that said that peace was between who and who? Others may say the peace is between rebels and the government. And it is not like that we need peace among ourselves.” He supplemented.

Jonglei is one of the states that have been affected by the current crisis. Last year Christians were not able to celebrate Christians due to the fighting which forced many people to flee their homes.
