Gv’t appeals for funds from Common Wealth Countries

The Minister of Foreign Affairs says South Sudan has presented a proposal to the Common Wealth Countries to appeal for funds that will be used to develop the country.

Barnaba Marial Benjamin was addressing the media at Juba International Airport after attending a Common Wealth Enterprise and Investment Council Summit in the United Kingdom.

“We are able to present our projects. The projects we presented are first, social infrastructure which connects about building of schools, hospitals that are mainly for service delivery. We also presented projects on Hydro power; we presented projects also on the roads, railway that is mainly for service delivery. We presented also projects on oil, gas and mining, we also presented projects on agriculture.” He said.

He said most of the people invited in the summit were financial institutions and they will fund the projects of their choice.

“Most of the institutions invited were financial houses that listen to each country and out of that, they will decide which project they will be able to pick and make more contexts with those countries once they are willing to fund the projects according to their choices.” The Foreign Affairs minister added.

 

Barnaba Marial said South Sudan has applied to join the commonwealth but its membership is yet to be approved.

 

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of fifty three independent and equal sovereign states.
