Fighting erupts in Pigi

There are fresh clashes between government forces and the SPLA In opposition forces in Pigi County, Jonglei state, the SPLA Spokesperson has announced.

Colonel Philip Aguer says the fighting started yesterday and is still going on in the area.

He denied media reports that the SPLA forces started the clashes.

“The rebels have been spreading false report that the SPLA is attacking them,” said Col Aguer.

“This is not true. They even mentioned the name of one our senior officers – Brigadier General John Maluit saying he’s commanding attack on then.

“Brigadier General John Maluit is here in Bilpam and if anybody wants to interview him, he is here, he is part of the SPLA administration.

“And the SPLA is committed to the cease fire because we are concerned of the suffering of our people.”

No casualties were reported.

However, the military spokesman for the SPLA in Opposition, Lul Ruai Koang was quoted by the Voice of America as saying, the SPLA – in Opposition force clashes with the government troops in Upper Nile and parts of northern Jonglei state.
