The peace dialogue between the Ngok people of Abyei Administrative Area and the Twic of Warrap State – has come up with a nine-point resolution in Western Bahr el Ghazal to end violence between the two communities.

In a document dated October 1st, obtained by Eye Radio, representatives of the two areas agreed to stop the deadly cycle of violence that started in February this year.

The communique appealed to the conflicting communities to abstain from hostile propaganda and hate speech, and to adhere to the cessation of hostilities.

Both communities also resolved that chiefs, local authorities, youth, and women including politicians should hold an inclusive dialogue to declare an end to the violence.

They further agreed to allow humanitarian access to aid workers to deliver assistance to those displaced because of the conflict, among others.

“We have reached these resolutions, first of which is to urge the community fighters of both sisterly communities to stop the deadly fighting, we urged all sons and daughters of both sisterly communities to abstain from hostile, propaganda and hate speeches and to promote the culture of peace,” said Rau Manyiel, a civil society activist.

The peace dialogue follows last month’s flareup of conflict, that killed dozens of people in Aneet town near the border between Warrap State and Abyei region.

While reading out the communique, Manyiel called upon the leaders and politicians to play a critical role in promoting dialogue and peaceful co-existence among the two sisterly communities.

“We call for holding of specific preparatory dialogue in each community Twic and Ngok for the holding of the inclusive dialogue for declaration of a session of the hostilities, five urge both communities to continue to allowing the humanitarian access and workers to deliver Assistances to the IDPs without any form of restrictions.”

The four-day peace conference which began at the weekend ended on Monday.

It was facilitated by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, Concordis International – with support from three UN organizations.

They include the International Office of Migration (IOM) and the UN peacekeeping bodies, UNISFA and UNMISS.

Tha peace resolution also urged the national government “through the council of state to be proactive on prevention the violence among the two communities of Twic and Ngok Dinka.”
