Police detains woman who ‘pushed dead’ her step-daughter

A woman has been taken in for questioning in connection with the death of an eight-year-old daughter of her co-wife, Aweil South police has said.

The incident took place at Manyiel Kongder village earlier this week. The woman is in police custody in Malek Alel.

“The woman says that she asked the girl to bring her something but the girl refused so the woman pushed her, the girl fell and did not get up again, Wol Wol Dhieu, police officer, rxpalined.

“So the woman got scared and ran away, leaving the girl on the ground.

“When the neighbors came, they found the girl lying dead on the ground. It happened during the day.

“When the girl’s father arrived from Aweil Town, he found that his child was dead and the woman was not in the house.”

The police officer says that an investigation will be launched when mourning for the girl is over.

The paramount chief of Ajak section, Ayom Akol Wek Ateny, called on the family to remain calm and allow the rule of law to investigate the matter.
