The scouts of Warrap state have donated items for Kuajok prisoners of Manyang Kuel.

They say they want to show they care for the inmates.

They say they bought with their own money clothes, bars of soap, cigarettes, tobacco and shoes for over one hundred and fifty prisoners.

The manager of Manyang Kuel prison, Col Juma Doka Legge, thanked the scouts.

Doka says that they are always welcome to visit to the prison to find out about the conditions of the inmates.

“People are brought to prison to reform to be better persons, if somebody goes back home, he/she becomes a good person in the community,” he said.

“We have religious programs every Sunday. Pastors do come for prayers here. They are isolated from people outside but they still have contact with people outside.”

The commissioner of Warrap State scouts, Makat Deng Achuil, encouraged the prisoners to have hope during their time in jail.

He also called for the cooperation of prison officers at the state central prison.

“You will be free like the people out there one day. I am telling you to be patient. You are kept for security reasons by the prison officers,” Mr Achuil told the inmates.

One of the prisoners said that the scouts had made him and the other prisoners feel better.

“I appreciate your kindness and I am very happy for your visit to see us in the prison here. Seeing visitors like this, you feel like you are not hated by people, you feel like you are somebody” said the unnamed prisoner.

“We are in a bad place called a prison in our country. By visiting us, you have boosted our moral.”
