The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the British government has decided to divert most of its support in South Sudan to humanitarian assistance.

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin spoke to journalists at Juba International Airport after his trip to the United Kingdom:

“…because of the recent crisis, most of the British funding will be diverted, mostly to humanitarian issues.”

The UN’s World Food Program said that 25,000 people are now living in a UN camp in the city of Malakal, where they are forced to drink dirty water because there is not enough clean water available.

UNMISS peacekeepers are also protecting about 6,000 civilians in their camps in Bor, Bentiu, Malakal and Juba.
